After much ado, a last-minute celebratory beverage, and ample waiting around whilst Sop covers every cubic mm of her body in assorted perfumes neither of us could quite be bothered to afford, our adventure around the planet began! (Sop bought some anyway)
We saw the sun rest its weary head (and eventually arise, full of vigor once more - unlike us!)
Compared to our usual donkey class squeezyjet antics, travelling with Singapore airlines was truly a marvelous affair: Reserved seats eliminated the chaotic dashes for the decent emergency exit seats, personal screens (with all the latest televisual and audio treats), smiling stewardesses that weren't a false, unhealthy shade of orange plus all the complimentary (free sounds better) gear you could wave a very large stick at... Yes freebies aplenty! 2 extremely edible free meals (all consisting of 3-4 petite courses), FREE BOOZE(!), free stuff that one could not possibly continue living on without (tooth brush, flight socks, blanket, warm hand towels), free wine, free snacks and much MUCH more free beer. The music played to all those aboard during the scary bits (take off and landing) was like a beautiful (disturbing) mash-up of elevator music and 80's movie "romance" scene tunes.
After almost 13 hours of movie studded sleeplessness we arrived in Singapore... Which to us pale jeans and jumper clad English folk was like living in a sauna cuddling a kettle right at the moment it whistles ecstatically spewing steam about the place. 70% humidity and 33 degree Celsius morning heat felt like enough to melt the tusks off an elephant!
TROPICAL TREES EVERYWHERE, EVEN IN AIRPORTS!
Having been awake for almost 24 hours, we made a one tenth hearted (a made-up term which inhabits the same scale as "half hearted") plod around Singapore unable to admire its real beauty, something we were soon to discover, in vast swathes.....
